Aegis: The First Mission, or Persona 3: Aegis: The First Mission, is a 2007 action game video game for mobile phones, and a spin-off of Persona 3. It was developed by Bbmf and published by Atlus. Set 10 years before the events of Persona 3, it follows the events of the Yakushima exercise.

The game was previously considered lost media and was unplayable due to the lack of any known copies of the game itself. The game was later re-released by G-Mode for Steam and Nintendo Switch as part of the G-Mode Archives+ series on June 5, 2024.

Emulation of the original release would be possible if a phone with the game could be secured and dumped, as a method of dumping i-mode games was found in late 2023. Video footage does exist however, and has also been translated for English speakers by a member of the community.

This work features "Aegis" who appeared in "Persona 3" (released in 2006) as the main character. A 3D action RPG distributed on feature phones as a side story. The story takes place in 1999 at the Kirijo Ergonomics Institute in Yakushima. When the Type 7 Aegis arrives on the island, an incident occurs during a training exercise. The past story of "Aegis", which was never told in the main story "Persona 3", is now revealed... In addition to original characters, characters that appeared in the main story also appear! Additionally, the familiar "Persona" system from the series is still alive and well in this game. Raise Aigis' level, strengthen her equipment, and conquer the shadows that appear on the island.

Aegis: The First Mission is set on the Japanese island of Yakushima over six days in May 1999, ten years prior to the events of Persona 3. The story follows the humanoid robot Aigis during an early incident in her life at the Kirijo Ergonomics Research Institute. Accompanied by her trainer, Sota Aizawa, and the facility's chief scientist, Yu Kimijima, Aigis confronts threats within the Institute while uncovering the mysteries surrounding the incident.

Gameplay

The player controls Aigis in 3D environments, using various weapons and Aigis' Persona, Palladion to fight shadows.

Aigis will be dispatched on a series of quests, throughout the game, to eliminate shadows lurking about in various locations on the island of Yakushima. Defeating shadows will net Aigis experience and money, which will eventually lead to her leveling up and gaining new skills to use in battle. Money can be spent in the workshop to purchase new weapons, armor, and items. At the end of most quests, Aigis will have to fight either a large "boss" shadow, or a set wave of a certain shadow. Occassionally, Aigis will be unable to use her weapons or access the workshop during specific story events.

Controls

Aigis' movement can be controlled by using the phones' directional pad. Pressing Enter will allow Aigis to jump, and pressing it twice will have her double jump. Pressing 0 will attack with the currently equipped weapon. The right software key will summon Palladion to use the currently selected skill, and the left software key will bring up the menu.

Trivia

• The game was originally released with a free trial version that would allow you to play up until a certain point at the beginning of the game. Afterwards, you would have to pay full price to play the rest of the game, which was 525 yen (tax included). However, buying the full version would allow you to resume with the data you had saved in the free trial. Other "trial" versions of i-mode games contained the full game's data and blocking progress unless an ownership check is passed and it's possible this trial did as well.^{[citation needed]}
• In early versions, the game was titled "Aegis: Zero" but this was later changed to the current name.^{[citation needed]}
