Profile
Origin
The hannya (Japanese: 般若hannya, Hepburn hannya) is a mask used in Noh theater that is typically used to represent a female demon or oni. The origin of the mask's name is said to come from either a monk who was from Nara Hannya-bō, or a Buddhist term for wisdom.[1]
