Navarre is a character in Shin Megami Tensei IV and Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse. He is one of the five new Samurai prentices chosen by the Gauntlet in the yearly Gauntlet Rite. In Apocalypse, he becomes a ghost who accompanies Nanashi as a Partner.

Profile

Navarre has brown hair styled into a pompadour. As a Samurai in Shin Megami Tensei IV, he wears the standard uniform of the Samurai of Mikado: a blue coat with white accents over a white robe, white pants and boots, a Gauntlet on his left arm, and carrying a sword resting on his left hip. As with all Samurai prentices in his year, he wears a scarf tied around his neck, with his being green.

As a ghost in Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse, Navarre appears as a small green entity without any clear physical traits, with the only exceptions being his face, butt cheeks, and his signature pompadour. In the DLC story "A Trip to Hawaii", Navarre briefly regain his human form where he wears swim briefs donned with a life jacket and floaties.

Navarre is very prideful and arrogant, carrying himself with a sense of superiority that he struggles to back up in the face of authority or conflict. He holds extremely classist views, having been raised in an affluent Luxuror family and sees the Casualry class as lesser beings, which causes hostility between himself and his fellow Samurai Flynn and Walter. Navarre sees no issue with causing physical harm on them to enforce his beliefs. This behavior also causes a rift between him and his fellow Luxurors, Jonathan and Isabeau. After being trapped in Alraune's Domain, he is left severely traumatized, manifesting into intense fear and paranoia of death.

In Apocalypse, he has recovered somewhat from his trauma. While he remains moderately proud and arrogant, he no longer looks down upon others as he once did, instead proclaiming his greatness rather than disparaging others. He is also deeply ashamed of his past actions, both in his treatment of Flynn and general behavior when alive. He is greatly supportive of Nanashi even when others doubt him, and is shown to be easily flustered and embarrassed in the face of kind words.

Notes

  1. Navarre and Flynn are both 18 years old at the beginning of Shin Megami Tensei IV. While Navarre's year of birth is not given, Flynn is stated in Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse to have been born in Year 2037 / Year 1474, Gregorian calendar.[1] As they are the same age, this would mean that Navarre would have been born circa 2037 or 2038.
