Tarukaja is a recurring skill in the Megami Tensei franchise.
Profile
Tarukaja's effect differs between games, though it always increases the attack of those affected by it; either exclusively physical damage or all damage.
In Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne and the Digital Devil Saga series, buffs are tracked in discrete "stages", up to +4 or -4, with each combatant starting at 0; these are permanent until the battle ends or the combatant is removed from the field. Tarukaja increases all allies' physical attack by 1 stage, however, if the combatant's buff stage is at -2 or lower, Tarukaja will instead increase it by 2.
Shin Megami Tensei IV maintains its predecessor's method of tracking buffs, though buffs only stack up to 3 stages. Tarukaja instead increases all damage by 20% per stage (up to 60%) and it does not double its effect on negative stages like in Nocturne; the stage will always increase by +1. Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse returns Tarukaja to only a physical attack-increasing buff.
In Shin Megami Tensei V, Tarukaja grants the Attack Up buff to one ally, multiplying outgoing damage by 1.2x for 3 turns. If the ally already has Attack Up, it will be upgraded to Attack Up EX, increasing the multiplier to 1.4x. Further casts will simply refresh the duration of the buff.
In the Persona series, starting from Persona 3,Persona 3
Persona 3 FES
Persona 3 Portable
Persona 4
Persona 4 Golden
Persona 5
Persona 5 Royal
Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth
Persona Q2: New Cinema Labyrinth
Tarukaja affects one ally, increasing their attack for 3 turns. Starting with Persona 4 Golden,Persona 4 Golden
Persona 5
Persona 5 Royal
Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth
Persona Q2: New Cinema Labyrinth
casting Tarukaja on an ally that already has an attack buff instead extends the duration of the buff, whereas prior to that the buff would "miss", granting no effect, or, in Persona 3, is not allowed to be cast.
- In Persona 3 and Persona 4,Persona 3
Persona 3 FES
Persona 3 Portable
Persona 4
Persona 4 Golden
an attack buff such as Tarukaja multiplies outgoing damage by 1.5x. It is additive to the effects of a defense debuff such as Rakunda, allowing for up to 2x damage. - In Persona 5,Persona 5
Persona 5 Royal
an attack buff such as Tarukaja multiplies outgoing damage by 1.4x. - In the Persona Q duology,Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth
Persona Q2: New Cinema Labyrinth
Tarukaja multiplies outgoing damage by 1.2x. It is considered a separate buff from Matarukaja and other attack-increasing buffs, which allows them to stack together.
