The category policy of Megami Tensei Wiki defines how pages should be categorized on the wiki.

General

Categories are specialized links that automatically sort pages into an index, called category pages. These indexes exist to help users find the content they are looking for in an organized manner. Pages are sorted into categories by linking to the category with [[Category:Category Name]]. Like regular links, these will link to the category by the exact name entered; if a category does not exist, it will create a red link.

As categories are always listed at the very bottom of a page, these should be added to the page’s footer space following all other content, immediately after the last section and any navigation templates.

Categories themselves can also be categorized into a main category, which will make them a subcategory of it. For instance, Category:Demons in Shin Megami Tensei II is a subcategory of Category:Demons and Category:Shin Megami Tensei II. This helps users find more specific content.

If you need to link to a category without adding a page to it, add a colon in front of Category:. For example: [[:Category:Demons]].

Main and Subcategories

Megami Tensei Wiki has a standard set of categories used across the site, consisting of a set of general categories and specific subcategories within. The general content categories are:

Alongside the above, media titles also have their own media categories as well, simply titled after their naming on the wiki. E.g. Category:Shin Megami Tensei: Nine, which is the media category for all things related to the video game Shin Megami Tensei: Nine. Remakes and remasters that have their own page on the wiki also receive their own media category, e.g. both Category:Persona 5 and Category:Persona 5 Royal are their own separate categories.

Subcategories are more specific iterations of the above, used to point users to specific content by relevancy. For instance, Category:Characters in Ronde is a subcategory that only lists characters who appear in Ronde. As such, this subcategory would be categorized under both Category:Characters and Category:Ronde.

Usage

All pages on Megami Tensei Wiki need to be categorized. Pages that do not have a category are listed in Uncategorized Pages.

In an effort to keep the content categories clutter-free and easy to point to certain content, subject pages should only be categorized into relevant subcategories, and not in the broader content categories. I.e. if a character appears in Shin Megami Tensei IV, they should be added to Category:Characters in Shin Megami Tensei IV, and not Category:Characters. In general, the main content categories should only list subcategories. If a page has been added to a specific subcategory, then the main content category should be removed from it.

Page boilerplates include the main content category as part of their formatting and to ensure that newly created pages are always categorized. Nonetheless, this category should still be replaced with the relevant subcategory when creating a page.

Category Order

Categories should be added to pages in a particular, organized manner. This follows the media order guidelines, where subcategories should be listed first by appearance order, then series, and finally by media title.

As an example, for Makoto Yuki, the page’s categories should be ordered as:

[[Category:Characters in Persona 3]]
[[Category:Characters in Persona 3 FES]]
[[Category:Characters in Persona 3 Portable]]
[[Category:Characters in Persona 3 Reload]]
[[Category:Characters in Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth]]
[[Category:Characters in Persona Q2: New Cinema Labyrinth]]
[[Category:Characters in Persona 5 Royal]]
[[Category:Characters in Persona 3 Dancing]]
[[Category:Characters in Persona 3 The Movie: Spring of Birth]]
[[Category:Characters in Persona 3 The Movie: Midsummer Knight's Dream]]
[[Category:Characters in Persona 3 The Movie: Falling Down]]
[[Category:Characters in Persona 3 The Movie: Winter of Rebirth]]
[[Category:Characters in Persona 3 (Manga)]]

Subcategories that are not tied to any particular media title can be listed prior to the specific subcategories. For instance, Category:Playable Characters and Category:Protagonists can be listed first. These should be listed alphabetically.
