Shin Megami Tensei:
Synopsis
While searching through their school's library, students Jin, Akira, and Rena discover a Demon encyclopedia originally owned by the Ahriman Occult. Rena explains that Demons coexist with humans in a world called Valhalla, then takes notice of an incantation written in the encyclopedia. As the three students recite the incantation, time freezes, and a girl named Ami summons them to a desolate Valhalla. Ami pleads for Jin and Akira, whom she claims are the Son of Light and Prince of Darkness, to save Valhalla with their latent abilities, as the world was torn by the desires of mankind and Demons. Malicious Gargoyles suddenly appear and attempt to take special artifacts from Ami, until Jin and Akira fight back using gun-like Devilisers to summon the Demons Rand and Gale. Their powers awakened, Jin, Akira, Rena, and Ami embark on a journey to save Valhalla from annihilation and find a way back home.

Jin, Akira, and Rena happen upon a book of Demons in their school's library, which also tells of a world called Valhalla. Chanting a spell, time in the kids' world suddenly freezes, and they are beckoned by Ami Kashihara to Valhalla, devoid of life. Ami tells Jin and Akira that they are the actually Son of Light and Prince of Dark, the creators of Valhalla. Joined by Demons Rand and Gale, the group set off to find a way to restore Valhalla and unfreeze time in their world.
While on the hunt for a nearby time chain, the group happen upon a fortress belonging to the Imperial Army, which was built over a village of humans enslaved by a Barbatos slither. Jin and Rand try fighting the Barbatos, but get captured and locked inside the fortress. Akira leads the others through a tunnel to the fortress, to which they are ambushed, so Gale sacrifices himself to ensure the others' escape. Sustaining minor injuries, Akira proclaims it is his turn to protect Gale. Meanwhile, Jin, Rand, and Gale manage to sneak out of prison and take Jin's Deviliser back from the Barbatos's boss, but nearly fall from the fortress's roof. Luckily, Akira soars in on a makeshift paraglider, and he and Jin power up their partners to defeat the Barbatos.
As the team proceed to Flower Town, where a time chain is supposedly located, a Demon of the Imperial Army named Harborim commences a pursuit against them. Meanwhile, Rena bickers with Jin about being dragged into this journey against her will, and that unlike him and Akira, she is not a Devil Child. Finding a phony time chain along the way, the team are lead to a chain market, but their search is for naught. Returning to the market the next day, Harborim holds Rena hostage, revealing the market to have been a set-up. Jin and Akira manage to defeat Harborim and claim his ring, which turns out to be a piece of a time chain.
When a time chain is detected across the sea, the team arrive at a port town, where a man named Zabel explains that an undersea tunnel is being dug. However, the volcanic terrain makes the tunnels hard to cross. A squadron of Balor then sail in, to which the team plan to sneak onto their ship in order to reach the neighboring continent. Jin and Rand's covers are blown, resulting in their persecution by the Balor squadron. Retreating to the undersea tunnel, they encounter Zabel and the ice Demon Issitoq, offering to help him drill to the other continent. Zabel is content on drilling, despite being under volcanic terrain; his ill daughter died after the Balors denied them access to a ship, as the closest hospital was overseas. Regaining his confidence from Jin, Zabel and Issitoq resume drilling and emerge on the other continent, reuniting Jin with Akira and the others. Rand and Gale defeat the Balors, to the villagers' delight, and Issitoq parts ways with Zabel.
The team arrive at a dried-up lake encompassing a treetop village, whose inhabitants rely on Isssitoq to stave off the heat. A feud then breaks out between the village chief and his son, the latter leaving the village alongside his siblings and Issitoq. As for the group, they learn the Imperial Army built a floodgate that cuts off the village's water, which is managed by Garm. The team successfully fights off Garm with the help of the chief's son and Issitoq, bringing water back to the treetop village.
Having difficulty locating the next time chain, the group run into Rangda and are directed to a village close by. Rena is suspicious of Rangda, but the Demon plays innocent. Suddenly, they are swarmed by a school of Skyfish, so Akira calls for Gale and Skuld to fight them. At the village, they visit a man holding a glowing tanuki statue, which Rangda believed was a time chain. Rena and Skuld chastise Rangda for her mistake, causing her to cry. Overcome with a headache, Jin's head sprouts a flower because he ate a strange fruit earlier, making him gravely weak. Ami and Rena stay with him while the others search for a cure, running into the Skyfish along the way. Rangda and Skuld put their differences aside to defeat the enemy Demons, successfully finding an antidote to give to Jin. Just as Jin is rid of the flower on his head, a Gargoyle flies in and captures Ami.
