Tsukiyomi was designed to contrast with Yu Narukami's Izanagi. Speaking on the designer's behalf, Shigenori Soejima mentioned how much trouble they had with the design as there are so few tales involving Tsukiyomi; even whether Tsukiyomi is a male or female goddess is unknown. The crescent shaped head shows Tsukiyomi's connection with the moon and the watery sword is due to how Tsukiyomi is said to be in possession of the ochimizu, a water of youth.[1]
