Profile
Origin
Lindwurm, anglicized as "lindworm" and literally translating to "lithe worm", is a term for a kind of dragon in German and Austrian folklore and iconography, usually comparable to wyverns though there is no set appearance. Folklore associates the Lindwurm with the city of Klagenfurt in Carinthia and the city of Worms in Rheinland-Pfalz.
In the Nibelungenlied, Siegfried slays a Linddrache (spelled Lintrache or Lintdrache in the original Middle High German), which shares the first component of Lindwurm but replaces Wurm with the synonymous Drache.
The name is cognate to the Scandinavian word lindorm; the Scandinavian lindorms are usually depicted limbless.
