| Reason: Clarify what a root race is |
According to Theosophy, a movement founded by Helena Blavatsky, Lemurians are the third of the seven "root races", and they lived on the sunken continent of Lemuria. The Lemurians are said to have laid eggs. Present-day humanity is the fifth root race (called the Aryan race).
The concept of a sunken continent of Lemuria originates from a hypothesis by Philip Sclater which was meant to explain similar primate fossils being present in Madagascar and South Asia. This hypothesis is outdated and has been replaced by the theory of continental drift.
