Hata Clan
秦氏
Location(s) Ancient kingdom on the site of Hirasaki City

The Hata clan is a group in the backstory of Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner. It is a fictionalized depiction of the real-life Hata clan which migrated from the Korean peninsula to Japan in the 3rd century AD.

Profile

The Hata clan is of Sumerian origin. This is reflected in their personal names; for example, Inaruna is named for the goddess Inanna.[1]

After migrating to Japan, the Hata clan started a kingdom located on the site of the present-day Hirasaki City; this kingdom has been dubbed by Professor Michio Azuma of Kitayama University as the Magic Kingdom. However, they would ultimately be conquered by the king of the Yamato in his unification of Japan.

Michio Azuma hypothesizes that the Hata clan are descended from a super-ancient civilization which came to earth from outer space, as detailed in the Takeuchi documents. This super-ancient civilization was technologically advanced and had spiritual connections beyond that of modern humans. Eventually, they were mostly wiped out by natural disasters, with only a small trace left in the genetics of present-day humans. However, the ancestral genes may occasionally express, resulting in supernatural abilities. Along with the Hata clan, possible examples of this include Himiko, Jesus Christ, Muhammad, Taira no Masakado, and Oda Nobunaga.[2]
