Counting sheep is a traditional technique which people use to try to lull themselves to sleep. The idea is to focus on visualizing a bunch of identical white sheep, one by one, jumping over a fence and count each of them. It serves as a calming and repetitive activity that distracts from worries and anxieties that may be preventing sleep.
