Profile

Origin

Angrboda[a] is a female jötunn in Norse culture and a partner of Loki. She is directly attested to in the Völuspá hin skamma stanzas of the Hyndluljóð, in which she is the mother of Fenrir, and in the Gylfaginning section of the Prose Edda, where in addition to Fenrir she is also the mother of Jormungandr and Hel.[1][2]

In the Völuspá there is mention of an old woman in an iron forest that gives birth to or raises wolves, often presumed to be Angrboda.[3]
