Koromaru is an albino Shiba Inu with gray fur and a white underside. He has a distinct winged collar that acts as his Evoker and gives him the ability to summon a Persona. He is initially introduced as a stray dog who hangs around Naganaki Shrine near the dormitory due to his owner being the deceased former head priest of the shrine. After he defeats a Shadow that attacks Naganaki Shrine and is shown to have the potential, Koromaru joins S.E.E.S. and becomes an essential member of the protagonist's party as the game progresses. Though he cannot speak, Koromaru is understood to be a loyal companion, and Aigis frequently interprets on his behalf.
In Persona 3 Reload, Koromaru has a black dog harness with a white first aid kit that he wears in the Tartarus. During Persona 4 Arena Ultimax, he has an orange hoodie that looks similar to the one Ken Amada wears in Persona 3.
During the main Persona 3 campaign, now titled "The Journey", Koromaru can be taken on walks at night. The protagonist can also attempt to take him along to the film festival.
Koromaru is the Strength Social Link for the female protagonist. During his Social Link, she can take him on walks, similar to how the male protagonist can walk him in FES.
Instead of a Social Link, Koromaru has Linked Episodes with the male protagonist. Koromaru's walks return as a nighttime dorm activity. Furthermore, he can now have his coat brushed, and he will occasionally want to watch a television show about wolves.
Koromaru is paired up with Ken Amada as one of the main fighters in Arena Ultimax. He enters Inaba with Yukari and Ken after the rest of the Shadow Operatives go missing. Yukiko Amagi periodically gets his name wrong, instead calling him Gengomaru.
