Pluto (Shin Megami Tensei IV)
Pluto (Shin Megami Tensei IV) is a Demon in the Megami Tensei franchise.
Profile
Origin
Plouton,[a] Latinized as Pluto, is an alternative name for the Greek god Hades, derived from the word πλοῦτος ploûtos, meaning "wealth." The Romans identified Pluto with their native god Dis Pater, who took on many characteristics of the Greek Hades under the influence of Greek culture.
Pluto is a god-like figure who rules the underworld, the realm of the dead. He, alongside Jupiter (Zeus in Greek mythology) and Neptune (Poseidon), are the three brothers of the Roman pantheon. A well-known myth associated with Pluto involves the abduction of Proserpina (Persephone), the daughter of the goddess Ceres (Demeter), in which Pluto became enamored with Proserpina and abducted her to the underworld to be his queen. Grief-stricken by the loss of her daughter, Ceres caused a great famine on Earth, though a compromise was eventually reached. It was decided that Proserpina would spend part of the year in the underworld with Pluto, and the rest of the year on Earth, thereby signifying the changing of seasons.
Design
In Shin Megami Tensei IV, Pluto was designed as a model by Yoshihiro Nishimura. He has a stump-like form with a skeletal face and pointed nose, covered in spikes and small horns. An orange funnel is attached to his head which bears four spinning blades, and emits purple smog.
In the Devil Children series, Pluto is a tall humanoid possessing a skeleton's head with a red bat-shaped symbol on his forehead, and has purple hands with sharp red fingernails. He wears a black trench coat and black boots, and carries a scythe with a curved red eye.
