Glasses are specially created equipment that the Investigation Team uses in Persona 4.

Profile

The Investigation Team use glasses in the TV World to see through the fog. All of the glasses were made for them by Teddie and have stripes on the sides resembling TV color bars.

When the protagonist, Yosuke, and Chie first enter the TV World on April 14th, they find it hard to see due to the yellow fog in the area. When the protagonist and Yosuke return on April 15th, Teddie presents them with glasses that allow them to see through the fog. As each new kidnapping victim awakens their Persona and joins the Investigation Team, Teddie gives them special glasses for exploring the TV World. On November 21st, the weather in Inaba starts becoming foggy with low visibility. On December 3rd, while walking to school, Rise remarks that the fog reminds her of being inside the TV, prompting Kanji to try putting on his special glasses outside of the TV World and, doing so, clears up the fog. The group quickly realizes that the fog in their city is the same as the fog inside the TV.

During the true ending, the protagonist discovers the mastermind behind the events of the past year. Before using the Myriad Truths, he removes his glasses and tosses them to the side as he no longer needs them.

In games released after, glasses continue to be used as a cosmetic item associated with Persona 4. All of the playable fighters in Persona 4 Arena and Persona 4 Arena Ultimax get glasses or some type of facial accessory even though glasses are no longer needed to see in the TV World.

There is also a humorous variant. When Yukiko joins the Investigation Team on April 30th, Teddie drops a pair of glasses that resemble Groucho glasses. He says he messed up when making them and they lack the proper lenses. Yukiko thinks the pair looks particularly silly and breaks into a laughing a fit while wearing them. She makes Chie and later Kanji try them on as well. While these glasses never get used by the team, they continue to appear for comedic effect usually under the name Gag Glasses, such as with the costumes added in Persona 4 Golden. During the Faith Confidant in Persona 5 Royal, Joker tries on gag glasses while shopping. And after completing Request #76 in Persona 3 Reload, Elizabeth puts on gag glasses.
