The Ring of Gaea is a recurring cult in the Shin Megami Tensei series. It is formed around occultism and a doctrine emphasizing individual strength and natural selection. Its members, known as Gaeans, worship nature and ancient gods.[1] They also believe in freedom of self-interest and that only the strong are worthy to rule. As such, the Ring of Gaea personifies the Chaos Alignment.
The Ring of Gaea's core principles are in direct conflict with the Messian Church, another recurring group in the series, and the two are often seen at war with one another. In Shin Megami Tensei IV, the Messian Church is not present and the Ring of Gaea are instead in conflict with the Ashura-kai.
In some games, members of the Ring of Gaea are encountered as Recruitable Humans, in which "Gaean" is used as a Demon Race. In Shin Megami Tensei IV however, they are classified under the Human Race.
