Origin

Vairocana (called the Dainichi Nyorai in Japan) is a cosmic Buddha in Mahayana Buddhism.

The Megami Tensei franchise identifies Vairocana as the same as Virocana (also spelled "Virochana"), an asura king in Hinduism.

Gameplay

Shin Megami Tensei

A demon exclusive to the CD-ROM² version of SMT1. Can only be obtained by fusing together Missionary, Amaterasu, and Crusader, and is available regardless of the player's level.

Vairocana, also known as Dainichi-Nyorai, presides over the Buddhist temple in Chesed, taking in lost souls regardless of their sins or creed. Upon seeing Aleph, he assumes that he is a servant of YHVH, and attacks.

Trivia

• In Shin Megami Tensei (CD-ROM²), despite referring to himself as the Tenma race when fused, the status screen lists his race as Tyrant.
