Shin Megami Tensei Music Collection is a music album in the Megami Tensei franchise included in the limited edition box set of Shin Megami Tensei IV, which was available to customers who pre-ordered or purchased first-print editions of the game.
In Japan, the CD was packaged with an art book inside its case; the two were collectively released as Shin Megami Tensei IV Sound & Art Collection. In addition to a small selection of artwork, the book included liner notes for the soundtrack and an interview with composers Kenichi Tsuchiya and Ryota Kozuka. In the interview, the composers stated that the bonus soundtrack was intended to feature rare material rather than tracks already used in the game.[1]
Among the recordings included was a live pipe organ performance of the series' Cathedral of Shadows theme, performed by harpist Tomoyuki Asakawa.[1] According to Tsuchiya and Kozuka, the recording was arranged late in production and required contacting several concert halls equipped with pipe organs before the session could be scheduled.[1]
In North America, the CD and book were released as separate items, with the book retitled Shin Megami Tensei IV Strategy & Design Book.

Tsuchiya: W-Wasn't it amazing!? It was like the hall's ceiling opened up and angels descended from the heavens!
Koduka: I almost ended up performing a demon fusion. On myself.
Tsuchiya: But okay, to tell you the truth... because of the deadline, the recording's happening tomorrow. (laughs)
Koduka: But I bet every series fan has dreamed of hearing the Cathedral of Shadows theme played live on a pipe organ at least once, am I right? So it's definitely wonderful to have that dream realized.
Tsuchiya: We've worked on the assumption that all of the music used in the game would be collected on an official soundtrack album, so we wanted the special bonus soundtrack to contain rare tracks that could only be heard on this CD. But giving people arranged music from the game that they haven't played yet seemed odd too... So we were very concerned about what kind of direction to take when making this special bonus soundtrack.
Koduka: That's right. Even the recording of the pipe organ was an idea presented at the last minute, so although the scheduling was tight, I'm glad we managed to make it happen.
Tsuchiya: We desperately called up every concert hall that had a pipe organ... and asked Tomoyuki Asakawa, one of the few male harpists in the world, to perform for us. Everything went miraculously, including the scheduling!
Koduka: I'm truly thankful that we were able to get Asakawa-san to perform, thanks to the cooperation of many different people. Truly grateful indeed." Shin Megami Tensei IV Strategy & Design Book.
