Notes

  1. ↑ According to Eratosthenes, who attributes the story to Epimenides, Aegipan was a companion of Zeus who assisted him in battle against the Titans and was memorialized with the constellation Capricorn.[1] Another version relayed by Hyginus (who attributes this to Euhemerus) says that Aegipan was the son of Jupiter (Zeus) and Aex, the wife of the nature god Pan; Aegipan was memorialized as one of the stars in the Auriga constellation.[2] Hyginus also mentions the version by Eratosthenes, however, when discussing Capricorn.[3]
