Network Functions

Network Functions are a recurring mechanic in the Persona series.

Overview

Network Functions were introduced in Persona 4 Golden as a new feature using the PS Vita's online capabilities. In Golden, the network allows players to see what other players did on a Calendar day and call for help in battle. Similar functionality has since made a return in other Persona titles.

Persona 4 Golden

Golden has two network-related features:

• Voice, also known as Vox Populi, can be used around Inaba during the afternoon and evening. It shows what other players did during that particular time slot as comic book styled thought/dialogue bubbles.
• SOS can be used from within dungeons in the TV World.
  • When sending out an SOS, the player will be told they are not alone and receive messages of support from other players, restoring some of their HP/SP. This requires others players to be currently playing Golden and connected to the same network; a player in need might not receive any assistance.
  • When responding to an SOS, the assisting player will receive a help request in the top left corner of their screen which they can choose to respond to.

Players can create their support messages in the Velvet Room from a list of pre-selected words, phrases, and symbols. The Velvet Room also shows statistics such as how many times the player has responded to calls for help.

Persona 4: Dancing All Night

Players can use the network to upload personal high scores and view scores earned by other players through the Score section of Collection mode. When viewing uploaded scores, the player can save a copy of a dance's replay data to view in the Replay Stage section. Up to 30 replays can be saved at a time. Network functionality can be turned off in the config menu.
