Leader (Devil Survivor)

Jump to navigation Jump to search

Leaders are a gameplay mechanic in the Devil Survivor series. They are characters who have joined forces with the protagonist and leads a team of summoned demons in combat.

Overview

In the Devil Survivor games, the player controls up to four teams consisting of one leader and two demons. A team cannot be deployed in battle if it does not have a leader. The leader is always the middle combatant and takes reduced damage so long as there is at least one other team member alive; however if the leader is killed then the entire team is defeated. If all deployed teams are defeated then the game is over.

Once per turn, the leader can summon a demon in the stock to an empty space in their team.

The protagonist is always the leader of the first team, but the availability of other leaders is based on different circumstances—such as if a specific event has been seen or depending on which route the player is on.

Unlike ally demons, leaders do not gain skills through level-up or auction ranks. Instead, a leader's skills are fully customizable and are set from the available list of cracked skills. Leaders need to meet the stat requirements of a skill to be able to set it. Some skills can only be used by a team leader, such as the auto skills and Leader Soul. Other skills cannot be used by leaders and are instead restricted to ally demons; that being the Knight Soul series of skills—where the member takes a lethal hit for the leader—and racial skills. When cracking skills, the chosen skill is assigned to the team's leader—although any member of the team can defeat the foe to crack it.

Each leader has a set movement value which determines how far they can travel on the map. This value can be changed by the active or passive racial skills of demons.

When fighting an enemy team, defeating the enemy leader before their teammates halves the EXP and Macca gained from the undefeated allies.

Reason: Missing stat calculations.

The leaders in Devil Survivor are: The Protagonist, Atsuro, Yuzu, Keisuke, Midori, Mari, Izuna, Amane, Kaido, Naoya, Black Frost, and Gin.
To see a leader's base stats, multipliers, and growth values—see the Gameplay section on their respective character page.

HP/MP Calculations

HP and MP are determined based on a hidden multiplier. The calculations are as follows and the result is rounded down to the closest whole number:

As an example, this is the calculation for the HP/MP of a level 22 leader with an HP multiplier of 5.2, an MP multiplier of 3.1, a Vitality stat of 15, and a Magic stat of 12:

Rounding down, this means the leader has 129 HP and 80 MP.

Stat Calculations

A leader's stats are determined by their base stats and growth value. Leaders will gain stats in a set order of 16 levels and the growth value is an indicator of how many points in a certain stat the leader will gain in one range. Once a leader has gone through all 16 levels, it will reset to the start of the range before beginning the next one. The ranges start from level 2, and are 2-17, 18-33, 34-49, 50-65, 66-81, and 82-97. This means that if a leader has a set strength growth of 6, and their base strength is 4, at level 17 they will have exactly 10 strength. By level 97, the leader will have strength.
The order in which the stats are gained during the 16-level ranges differ for each leader and are as follows:

The protagonist has no growth values, and his stats on level-up are instead picked by the player.

Devil Survivor 2

This section is in need of research.
Reason: Need to test whether HP/MP calculations work the same as in DeSu1.

Unlike Devil Survivor and Devil Survivor: Overclocked, where all leaders base level is 1, the leaders in Devil Survivor 2 have varying base levels. The growth values are still an indication of the amount of stat points gained during a range of 16 levels, but this change means that each leader has their own set of level ranges, starting from the level after their base one. The order in which each leader will gain stats in their 16-level range is:

Fate

Devil Survivor 2 introduces the fate system for leaders, which is a representation of how close the protagonist is to his companions. Each companion has 5 fate stages, and to raise their fate rank the player has to see certain mandatory or optional events with that companion. Each stage provides gameplay benefits, and they are as follows:

Rank Description
Stage 1 The companion will gain an attribute resistance
Stage 2 The protagonist and the companion share skill crack targets
Stage 3 A demon is unlocked for fusion
Stage 4 The protagonist can send his demons to the companion's team
Stage 5 A demon is unlocked for fusion

The leaders in Devil Survivor 2 are: The Protagonist, Daichi, Io, Joe, Hinako, Keita, Airi, Jungo, Fumi, Makoto, Otome, Ronaldo, Yamato, and the Anguished One.
To see a leader's base stats, multipliers, growth values, and fate stage gains—see the Gameplay section on their respective character page.

Devil Survivor 2: Record Breaker introduces Miyako as a leader in the triangulum arc. In addition, although each leader's growth values are the same as in Devil Survivor 2, the order in which most of them gain their stats during their ranges has been changed.
