Origin

Kotodama[a] (lit. "word-soul") is a concept in Japanese folk beliefs wherein words are believed to have inherent spiritual power.

Design

Kotodama was a winner of a contest for fan-submitted devil designs held for children at Tokyo Game Show 2001 Spring.[1] According to the game's credits, its designer was Daisuke Shimotashiro.
