Index Corporation changed its name to Index Holdings in June 2006[1] and created a subsidiary called by Index Holding's former name Index Corporation.[2] Index Holdings announced it had acquired Megami Tensei series developer Atlus on November 21, 2006, and Atlus became a subsidiary of Index on November 29, 2006.[3] Effective October 1, 2010, the subsidiaries Atlus Co., Ltd. and Index Corporation ceased to exist and merged into Index Holdings,[2] which changed its name to Index Corporation effective December 1, 2010.[4] Atlus U.S.A., Inc. would be renamed to Index Digital Media, Inc. While Atlus no longer existed as a company, Index would continue to use it as a brand name.

Index would go bankrupt in June 2013 and be acquired by Sega Sammy Holdings effective November 1, 2013. After its acquisition, it had its assets transferred to Sega Dream Corporation, which was renamed to Index Corporation and the original Index was dissolved. This new Index Corporation would be renamed to Atlus effective April 1, 2014, while its non-game-related properties would be divested into another new Index Corporation company which was sold by Sega Sammy to Sawada Holdings in 2015 and is now known as iXIT Corporation.
