Dark Realm
異界Otherworld

The Dark Realm is a recurring concept in the Devil Summoner series. It is another world which acts as a connection between the human world and the demon world. Devil Summoners are able to access the Dark Realm either by bringing part of the Dark Realm into the human world or by going into the Dark Realm directly.

Game Appearances

Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner

In Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner, the Otherworld is the setting of most of the game's dungeons.

Normal space can be temporarily transformed into the Otherworld.[1] This is accomplished through bringing parts of the Otherworld into this world.[2] An area can be turned into the Otherworld either by a human (such as Sid Davis)[3] or by demons (e.g. Fuguruma).[4] When an area is transformed into the Otherworld, it is linked to the Makai. The terrain is altered to be more labyrinthine, and communication with the outside is not possible.[5]

According to Susano-o, demons appear from the Otherworld in Hirasaki City due to the breaking of the seals placed on the land in ancient times.[6]
