Other Name(s) Aura Gate

Aura Gate 1, also referred to as the Aura Gate, is a location in Shin Megami Tensei: Liberation Dx2.

Gameplay

Aura Gate 1 is an Aura Gate unlocked after completing Chapter 3. It consists of 50 floors divided into 10 blocks of 5 floors each. Aura Gate 1 is only open for 55 minutes, after which it is closed for 5 minutes. Every time it opens, its floors are randomized, and remain the same for all players until it closes. Once it closes, any players still in the Aura Gate are kicked out as soon as they are not in battle, regardless of whether it opens again by the time they finish. As a consequence of this, if a player defeats a boss tied to a story event after the Aura Gate closes, the ejection will take priority over the event, so the player must defeat the boss again to see the event.

Unique to Aura Gate 1 are Gatekeepers and Chaos Knights. Gatekeepers are powerful Demons that roam a given, random floor. Gatekeepers are fought on a turn timer, where the objective is to deal as much damage to it as possible before they escape. All players share the same Gatekeeper, and rewards are given according to how much damage was dealt by each player.

Chaos Knights are random encounters with one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. They will show the player three cards: a Bless card and two Curse cards, then shuffle them in a predictable fashion. If the player selects the Bless card, all players on that floor will collect more items from item tiles, and the player that encountered it will have their HP and Action Points replenished. If the player selects a Curse card, they will either take damage or reduce all items from item tiles to 1 for all players on that floor.

Completing the 50th floor unlocks Seiran Saikawa as a Dx2. Furthermore, some of her Dx2 skills only function within Aura Gate 1.

Shin Megami Tensei: Liberation Dx2

The protagonist is called to the Aura Gate by Seiran Saikawa, who watches over it and the Dragon Stream. She had sent a research team of five to explore the Aura Gate, though she lost contact with them and needed their help to explore it, as she would need to focus on the gate. The two soon find the diary of Fujita, one of the researchers and a scholar, describing his thirst for knowledge. On the 5th floor, as Saikawa is describing how little is known of the Aura Gate, they find Dantalian, the self-described ruler of those levels. On the 7th floor, they find a torn page of Fujita's diary, saying that the research team is "finished" and a "Great Aura" that granted them the power to learn everything. On the 9th floor, they find Fujita himself, who is obsessively doing his research and refuses to leave the Aura Gate. On the 10th floor, they corner Fujita, but he defends himself by revealing that he is Dantalian, having been granted that form. They are forced to fight him, killing Fujita, though they find his IC recorder. The recorder reveals that the research team found a hole, the core of the Aura Gate, then a voice asks them for their wish.

On the 13th floor, Saikawa and the protagonist find a civilian girl who wandered into the Aura Gate. Before they can escort her out, she says that she has to go die and runs off. Later, on the 15th floor, they find a man also wishing for death. The two civilians are seen on the 17th floor, and they hear a voice calling them. On the 20th floor, they find the source of the voice: Azrael, the demon form of Eto of the research team, who had lost his wife and came to wish for death himself. After he is slain, the civilians disappear from the Aura Gate.

On the 21st floor, Saikawa and the protagonist find an excitable Baphomet, the demon form of Muroi of the research team, who invites them to a Sabbath, which he refers to as a party, on the 30th floor. They find him again on the 25th floor, where he admits that his former self had no social skills. They later find more civilians looking to join Baphomet's Sabbath. On the 30th floor, they find the Sabbath being held as a revelry to have the civilians party until they die, which forces them to kill Baphomet, though before he dies, Muroi tells them that the Great Aura granted wishes to the research team. Saikawa speculates that Muroi must have wished to be more connected to others.

On the 35th floor, Saikawa and the protagonist find Seno. He initially appears fine, though he reveals that he became a Slime. Unlike the others, he doesn't want to harm them, nor does he understand what happened. When asked, he can't be bothered to think about it or answer them and finds everything boring or dull. He also believes wishes to be burdens that will only leave dissatisfaction when left incomplete, which leads Saikawa to deduce that Seno had no wish. Even still, he does not wish to return to his former self, and fights them to force them to kill him, though he admits that he found the battle exciting after he is defeated and reveals that the deepest part of the Aura Gate is the 50th floor.

On the 41st floor, Saikawa and the protagonist hear a voice, describing itself as a "human made Angel", who Saikawa deduces to be Captain Mikami. They find Mikami himself on the 45th floor, who invites them to the "Door" at the deepest point of the Aura Gate, its core. On the 46th floor, they find many civilians heading towards a "Promised Land", which Mikami reveals to be where the Door leads to, and where Mikami wants to take the civilians to save them, as his wish was to save humans. On the 50th floor, they find a large hole where many people are gathered around, and Mikami himself. Mikami reveals that the hole is the Door, and the research team bonded with an entity there, who they believe to be God, gaining power. He then transforms into Metatron and beckons the people in, though he is fought and defeated before anything can happen. The Door begins to close, Metatron falls into it, and the civilians disappear from the Aura Gate, ending the investigation.
