Profile
Origin
Abel[a] is a shepherd, the son of Adam and Eve, and the younger brother of Cain in the Hebrew Bible. In Genesis 4 he sacrifices "fat portions from some of the first born of his flock" (Genesis 4:4 NIV) to the Lord while Cain, who "worked the soil" (Genesis 4:2 NIV) sacrificed some of his fruit. The Lord favored Abel's sacrifice, which angered Cain, who took his younger brother out into a field and killed him there. The Lord cursed Cain, making it impossible for him to produce a plant that would bear fruit ever again, forcing him to wander the Earth. Abel is regarded in many Abrahamic religions as the first victim of murder.
