This Devil Survivor series mechanics page is a stub. You can help Megami Tensei Wiki by expanding it.
Reason: Overview can be improved, missing game-specific stat calculations and information.

Leaders are a gameplay mechanic in the Devil Survivor series. They are characters who have joined forces with the protagonist and leads a team of summoned demons in combat.

Overview

In the Devil Survivor games, the player controls four teams consisting of one leader and up to two members. A team cannot be deployed in battle if it does not have a leader. The leader takes reduced damage as long as there is at least one other team member alive; however, if the leader is killed then the entire team is defeated. If all deployed teams are defeated it will lead to a game over.

Once per turn, the leader can return a member to the COMP or summon one from stock.

The Protagonist is always the leader of the first team, but the availability of other leaders is based on different circumstances—such as if a specific event has been seen or depending on which route the player is on.

Unlike member demons, leaders do not gain skills through level-up or auction ranks. Instead, a leader's skills are fully customizable and are Set from the list of Cracked Skills. Some skills can only be used by a leader, such as the auto skills and Leader Soul. Other skills cannot be used by leaders and are instead restricted to member demons, that being the Knight Soul series of skills—where the member takes a lethal hit for the leader—and racial skills. For Skill Cracking, the chosen skill is assigned to the team's leader, although any member of the team can defeat the foe to crack it.

Each leader has a set Movement value which determines how far they can travel on the map. This value can be changed by the active or passive racial skills of the team members.

Devil Survivor: Overclocked

HP/MP Calculations

HP and MP are determined based on a hidden multiplier. The calculations are as follows and the result is rounded down to the closest whole number:

As an example, this is the calculation for the HP/MP of a level 22 leader with an HP multiplier of 5.2, an MP multiplier of 3.1, a Vitality stat of 15, and a Magic stat of 12:

Rounding down, this means the leader has 129 HP and 80 MP.

Stat Calculations

A leader's stats are determined by their base stats and growth value. The growth value is an indication of how many points in a specific stat the leader will gain during a set of 16 levels, starting from level 2. The ranges are 2-17, 18-33, 34-49, 50-65, 66-81, and 82-97. This means that if a leader has a set strength growth of 6, and their base strength is 4, at level 17 they will have exactly 10 strength. By level 97, the leader will have strength. The order in which the stats are gained during a set of 16 levels is different for each leader.
