Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner is a live-action television series in the Devil Summoner series, loosely based on the game of the same name. The first season follows the plot of Devil Summoner, while the second season presents an original story. Originally commissioned for a single thirteen-episode season in 1997, popular demand led to a second season in 1998.[1] To date, the series has not seen an official release outside of Japan. A fan translation of the first season was released by translator Papaisan on June 14, 2021.[2] An upscaled and fully translated version of the series was uploaded to YouTube and Dailymotion by the translation group ShiraClub on January 23, 2025.[3]

Home Release

The series was released in Japan on VHS across eight volumes by Warner Vision Japan,[4] with the second season adding the subtitle Descent of the Flashing Demon.[a] A seven-disc LaserDisc box set was released by Pioneer LDC,[5] with an exclusive interview video titled Deep Devil Summoner: 1999. A five-disc DVD box set was released on December 23, 2005.[6]

Trivia

  • According to Kazuma Kaneko, the Devil Summoner television series was his idea and he assembled the production team for the show; however, after financial discussions began he handed the project over to his boss, Kōji Okada. He claims he had no involvement outside of cameos afterwards.[12][13]
