Kaguya-Hime is a princess from the Moon who appears in the fictional narrative, The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter. In the story, she was found inside a glowing bamboo stalk as a baby by an old bamboo cutter and brought back to his house to be raised by him and his wife. She grew to be a woman of extraordinary beauty, attracting many suitors when word of her looks started spreading. Later on, she revealed the origin of where she was born to the couple. Ultimately, the people of the Moon came to take her back. Before she departed Earth, her attendant from the Moon placed a celestial cloak on her shoulders, and this caused Kaguya-Hime to forget her time spent in the human world.
