Sub-Series
Two entries in the overall Devil Summoner series were expanded into their own sub-series.
Soul Hackers
Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers is the second entry in the Devil Summoner series, originally released for the Sega Saturn in 1997. While the game did not initially spawn a sub-series, it was overtime followed by a two novel adaptations and mobile games based on this particular entry. Soul Hackers was established as a proper sub-series with the release of Soul Hackers 2 in 2022, 25 years after the original game's release, which the game's developers intended to be part of a new series.[1]
The Soul Hackers sub-series is set in a futuristic, technologically-advanced setting, in contrast to other Megami Tensei games which tend to be closer to modern, present-day settings.
Devil Summoner: Raidou Kuzunoha
The Devil Summoner: Raidou Kuzunoha sub-series of games centers on Raidou Kuzunoha XIV, a detective and Devil Summoner active during the Taishō era of Japan. The sub-series began with Devil Summoner: Raidou Kuzunoha vs. the Soulless Army, the third entry in the overall Devil Summoner series, released for the PlayStation 2 in 2006. The game was subsequently followed with a sequel in 2008 along with a few adaptations, including a novel, a two-part audio drama series, and a manga series.
Distinct from other Devil Summoner and Megami Tensei games, the Raidou Kuzunoha games feature action-oriented, real-time battles as opposed to turn-based as in other games.
