Yoshitsune is a Demon in the Megami Tensei franchise.

Profile

Origin

Minamoto no Yoshitsune was a Japanese military commander during the Genpei War alongside his half-brother Yoritomo. Despite their successful battles, Yoritomo began to suspect Yoshitsune of wanting to overthrow him for power, and he fell out of the trust of the people. Yoshitsune fled to live under the protection of a lord named Fujiwara no Hidehira, but Fujiwara's son Yasuhira plotted with Yoritomo to betray them. Eventually, Yoshitsune was surrounded by Yoritomo's soldiers, leaving him no other choice but to commit seppuku.

He is post-mortemly considered one of the greatest samurai in Japanese history.

Design

Yoshitsune appears as a young man clad in red-and-black samurai armor and a black cap. The mon of the Minamoto clan, colored red, appears on his hat and on the torso of his armor. He holds a katana in his right hand and a wakizashi in his left, in a reverse grip. He has pale skin and a pink scar across his left eye, and long black hair. From Persona 5 onwards, the scar on his left eye is mirrored on his right eye.
