The Hospital[1] is a location in Shin Megami Tensei. It is located in Kichijoji, Tokyo and serves as the first dungeon of the game.

Gameplay

The Hospital consists of two floors. Initially, both the Hospital's exit and second floor are inaccessible. Stephen is encountered in one of the Hospital's cells on the first floor, where he will upgrade the Hero's COMP with the Demon Analyze Program and unlock the gate to the second floor. He will henceforth offer to save the game's progress up until the Hospital's boss has been defeated.

The Hospital is initially inaccessible. After the Hero is arrested by the police on suspicion of murder, he is taken to a holding cell in the Hospital. There he meets his cellmate, the Law Hero, who was also captured by the police after fighting off demons. The pair break free of their cell after attacking a hospital worker, but realize they cannot leave the Hospital as its exit is locked. They also discover that the Hospital Director has been holding other people captive to medically experiment on.[2][3] The pair meet Stephen in one of the cells, who explains that he had created the Demon Summoning Program after mistakeningly summoning a demon through a failed Terminal experiment. He aids the heroes by supplying the Demon Analyze Program and unlocking the door to the Director's Office on the second floor, informing them they will find a switch inside that unlocks the exit.

The heroes confront the Director in his office, who reveals that he is actually Orias and has been modifying people to become his puppets.[4] They defeat him and the Hero disengages the exit's lock.
