Origin

Sariel is a name of an angel in some Second Temple period Jewish writings, including the Book of Enoch and the War Scroll.

In the Greek version of the Book of Enoch, Sariēl is one of the seven holy angels who watch; the Ethiopic version instead has the name Saraqâêl (Enoch 20:6). In the Ethiopic version of Enoch, there is a fallen angel named Sariêl, who is mentioned to have taught humans the course of the moon; the Greek version of Enoch instead calls this angel Seriēl (Enoch 6:7, 8:3).

In the War Scroll, Sariel is one of four angels (along with Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael) whose name is to be written on the shields of tower soldiers.
