Type (Devil Children)
Type is a recurring mechanic in the Devil Children series.

Each demon has its own Type, which determines its resistances and limits which kind of skills they cannot inherit via fusion.

Devil Children Black Book and Red Book
Each demon belongs to one of seven types: Fire, Water, Earth, Metal, Wood, Sun, and Moon.
The first five types are based on the Chinese concept of Wuxing, also known as The Five Elements, and the elemental resistances between those types are based on Wuxing's destructive cycle:
- Fire is strong against Metal, as fire can melt metal.
- Metal is strong against Wood, as metal instruments can cut vegetation.
- Wood is strong against Earth, as plants drain nutrients from the soil.
- Earth is strong against Water, as the soil can drain water.
- Water is strong against Fire, as water can extinguish flames.
The two remaining Types of Sun and Moon are based on the concept of Yin and Yang and are weak to one another while being neutral to the remaining five Types.
The seven Types together are also based on the Japanese names for the seven days of the week, as the origin story of the Devil Children world is based on the biblical concept of Genesis, in which the creator spent six days to create the world and rested on the seventh.
Demons cannot inherit skills from a Type they are weak to via fusion. If a demon learns a skill from a Type that they're weak to from a Trainer, the target's resistance to that Type will receive a ×0.2 modifier. For example, if a Fire demon uses a Water skill on a foe, that foe's resistance to Water will be ×0.2. If the target is an Earth demon who is already resistant to Water, their resistance will change from ×0.5 to ×0.1. If the target is a fellow Fire demon who is already weak to Water, their resistance will change from x1.5 to ×0.3.

The Type mechanic is unchanged from Black Book and Red Book.
Devil Children Light Book and Dark Book
Each demon belongs to one of eight types: Fire, Ice, Earth, Wind, Thunder, Water, Light, and Dark.
The Types are grouped in pairs of Fire-Ice, Wind-Earth, Thunder-Water, and Light-Dark. Each member of a pair will resist itself and be incredibly weak to the other. Demons cannot inherit skills from Types that are their opposite via fusion, but if they learn such skills from other methods, the target's resistance to that Type will receive a ×0.2 modifier.
Types may have resistances and weaknesses outside of the assigned pairs, but those do not affect skill inheritance nor will they apply a negative modifier to resistances.
