Tatsuya Suou is the protagonist of Persona 2: Innocent Sin and the deuteragonist of Persona 2: Eternal Punishment.

Profile

Tatsuya is a tall young man, standing at 181 cm (5'11). He has medium-long dark brown hair with long bangs parted down the middle. In Innocent Sin, he wears his school's uniform, a matching black blazer and pants with a singular white stripe down the sides, a white button-up shirt with an indigo tie, and black sneakers. As a kid, he sports the same hairstyle with a white and blue t-shirt. He would also sometimes wear the Red Hawk mask. In Eternal Punishment, he wears a red tracksuit with an X shape over the front of his top instead of his school uniform.

Tatsuya is the protagonist of Persona 2: Innocent Sin and as series tradition, can be named by the player. Unlike other series protagonists, his name is pre-set by the game itself and the name Tatsuya Suou is also used in Eternal Punishment, where he is independent from the player's control. He works as a mechanic and has a love for motorcycles. He can often be seen tinkering on his own bike, which he uses as a primary means of transportation. Tatsuya is a quiet and reserved individual who rarely speaks, and takes action more than he talks. As a playable character, the things he says can be slightly different depending on player choice. However, his overall personality is laid out by the game itself. He is the most cool-headed out of his party, rarely letting emotions get in the way (although when he is distressed, he sits in silence with visible shock or grief on his face). As stated by his shadow self, he holds a sense of aimlessness in his future deep down and hopes that his path in life will be laid out for him, rather than chasing his dreams (specifics may differ depending on the player's choices when receiving counselling from Ms. Saeko at the beginning of the game). Because of this, he tends to go with the flow and see where life takes him.

Tatsuya cares deeply about his friends as well as other people in need, rarely hesitating to fight for others. Depending on player choice, he may also choose to stay out of the way in certain situations and let his friends solve their problems on their own. He has a habit of carrying around a Zippo lighter given to him by Jun Kurosu as a child. Tatsuya shares a deep bond with Jun, the only member of the masquerade/masked circle to have spent time with him outside of group activities. Outside of Jun, Tatsuya is mostly a loner who, up until the events of Innocent Sin, keeps to himself and doesn't engage with others much. Likewise, he has a somewhat estranged relationship with his older brother Katsuya, who worries about him. Due to his lone-wolf nature, he is popular with girls at Seven Sisters High and an object of envy to others, even being known at Kasugayama High. Despite this, Tatsuya doesn't often humor his reputation and would rather ignore it.

Tatsuya is able to be equipped with sword weapons and male/unisex armor. His stats in Innocent Sin are determined by the player upon level ups. In Eternal Punishment, he has a balanced set of stats with a slight lean towards strength and vitality. His initial, prime (custom), and ultimate persona are all of the Sun arcana. He has favorable affinity towards personas of the Fool, Emperor, Chariot, Justice, Hanged Man, Moon, Sun, and World arcana, as well as the Cup and sword minor arcana. His contact options are impression, persuade, talk about manliness, and stare. He has a variety of group contacts that unlock as the story progresses and under certain dialogue choice selections.
