Origin
Nosferatu is allegedly a Romanian word for a vampire first recorded in 1865 by Wilhelm Schmidt, a professor at a k.k. Staats-Gymnasium in Hermannstadt, Transylvania (now Sibiu, Romania). The exact derivation of the word is unknown, and various hypotheses have been put forth.
