Yui's Synergy: A World of My Own

Matsukata first appears as part of Yui's Synergy ("A World of My Own"). In Chapter 4 of the Synergy, while playing Harvest World Online together, the topic of hamburgers comes up, and Yui asks the protagonist (Nagisa Kamisiro) to meet her friend in Shibuya at Boom Bang Burger, as she doesn't have anyone to go with. As to why Yui can't go with her herself, she claims it's not possible as they "share the same body", but insists the friend is a different person. In Chapter 5, they meet at the restaurant, and she introduces herself as Musubi Matsukata, expressing surprise that Nagisa is still in high school. She discusses finding herself overwhelmed with work, but found moving to the city for an office job preferable to the rural farm she grew up on. If the protagonist greets her as Yui, she will deny it, but does acknowledge she'll see him around on the virtual farm.

Later, the virtual farm becomes infested with pests, and Yui becomes downtrodden and does not log on for a while. When she returns, she says she had something preoccupying her in real life, but is inspired that Nagisa still tended to the farm while she was away. She notes Matsukata might be free again and is interested in gardening in real-life, and suggests Nagisa visit Matsukata in Shibuya again. They visit the flower shop together, and Matsukata explains that when Yui was offline for a while, Matsukata was dealing with a frustrating situation at the office, and seeing a similar situation in the virtual world made her not want to log on. However, when she did so and saw Nagisa had been tending to it without her, it inspired her to also pick herself up at work, for which she thanks him.

Matsukata later has her own Synergy story separate from Yui's, beginning when the protagonist happens to run into her one night in Shibuya.

Trivia

• In the Thieves Den, Yui's transformation tile features Matsukata as her "real world" model, regardless of progress in Yui's Synergy.
