Shadow Shido is a character in Persona 5.

Profile

Shadow Shido is the Shadow of Masayoshi Shido. As the Palace ruler of Shido's Palace, he represents the deadly sin of pride.

His transformed form is called Samael.

Trivia

• Shadow Shido's "masked" form strongly resembles Char Aznable, a major antagonist from the Gundam franchise. However, in Persona 5 Official Design Works, Shigenori Soejima acknowledges this and claims he was unaware while creating the design, alluding to Char with the fan nickname "3倍速い人" or "the 'three-times-faster person'". Nonetheless, Shido and Char share the same voice actors in both Japanese and English (Shūichi Ikeda and Keith Silverstein, respectively).
• In Persona 5, True Masayoshi Samael Shido has the largest skillset of any enemy, with 35 skills he can possibly use. However, in Persona 5 Royal he is surpassed by Lavenza, who has 42.
• Due to Shido's Shadow not being seen by the player until the battle with him, the security meter portrait for Shido's Palace only features his normal appearance. However, a version of the portrait with Shadow Shido's "leader" outfit exists in a December 2015 prototype for Persona 5.

Nomenclature

The Samael middle name of his boss form is derived from the demon Samael. Its use here is likely a substitution for Lucifer, who has historically been associated with the Deadly Sin of Pride by Christian demonologists; Samael and Lucifer are both variations of the concept of a Satan.
