Atlus U.S.A.
Atlus U.S.A., Inc., stylized as ATLUS U.S.A. and known as Index Digital Media, Inc. from 2011 to 2014, was an American video game localizer and publisher founded in 1999. Until its dissolution, Atlus U.S.A. was the localizer and (until 2016) publisher of Megami Tensei-franchise games in the United States.
Atlus U.S.A. was merged into Sega of America and ceased to exist in 2019.[1]
History
Atlus had formerly published games in North America under the subsidiary Asuka Technologies Inc. in 1990 and the subsidiary Atlus Software, Inc. from 1991 to 1996, and directly published games in North America from 1996 to 1999.
Operating out of the same office as its predecessors, Atlus U.S.A., Inc. was founded in March 1999,[2] and its first published game was Red Company's Thousand Arms. The first Megami Tensei title it published was Persona 2: Eternal Punishment.
When Atlus Co., Ltd. was absorbed by Index Corporation in 2010, Atlus U.S.A. would be renamed to Index Digital Media, Inc. in March 2011,[1] before being renamed back to Atlus U.S.A. in March 2014[1] after Index's acquisition by Sega. In March 2016, Sega of America announced in a press release the finalized acquisition of Atlus U.S.A. From that point all future Atlus titles released in North America were published by Sega of America. Despite Sega publishing Atlus's games, both entities continued to identify as individual brands and act autonomously[3] until March 2019, when Atlus U.S.A. was merged into Sega of America and ceased to exist.[1] All games since have been localized by Sega of America.
