Sega of America, Inc., stylized as SEGA of America, is an American video game localizer and publisher, and is a subsidiary of Sega.
Atlus U.S.A. was merged into Sega of America and ceased to exist in 2019.[1]
History
Originally Sega had two separate subsidiaries in the United States: Sega Enterprises, Inc. (USA), which was founded as SE, Inc. in 1985 and focused on arcade games, and Sega of America, Inc. which was founded in 1986 and focused on the home console market. Sega of America would be merged into Sega Enterprises (USA) in 2001, and Sega Enterprises (USA) would be renamed to Sega of America, Inc. in 2002.[1]
In March 2016, Sega of America announced they would begin publishing Atlus games in the United States,[2] though Atlus U.S.A. would still handle localization until March 2019, when Atlus U.S.A. was merged into Sega of America and ceased to exist,[1] after which Sega of America took control of localizing games in the Megami Tensei franchise. Sega of America continues to use the Atlus name in marketing, operating social media accounts under the name "Atlus West".
