Profile

Origin

Douniu[a] is a beast in Chinese folklore with a bull's head and dragon's body. It is present in the Chenyuan Shilüe[b] written by Wu Zhangyuan in 1788.[c] Here, it is described as looking like Qiuchi,[d] a type of young Asian dragon with horns not yet grown, but with fish scales. It makes clouds and mist during rainy nights, and is said to be seen meandering the paths beside the Jin'ao Yudong Bridge,[e] located in Beijing.[f][1][2]
