Baofu's design is blend of depictions of shady characters commonly featured in detective television series and movies from the 70s and 80s, but is not based on any specific person.[2] The purpose of the design was to portray a man who exaggerates his appearance and personality in order to hide his true identity.[3]

- For the 30th anniversary celebration of the Persona series at Sea Paradise, Baofu was paired with stripey or convict fish.
Nomenclature
Baofu comes from the Chinese 報復 bàofù, meaning "revenge."
