Profile
Origin
Azathoth, also known as the "blind idiot God," is a deity in the Cthulhu mythos. It is mentioned in the Necronomicon,[1] spawned Nyarlathotep, and Cthulhu is a later descendent.[2]
Azathoth was first conceptualised by name in a note written by H.P. Lovecraft in 1919, but it would not be until 1943's formal publishing of The Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath that Azathoth would appear to the public. It is first described as a being that gnaws and blasphemes at the centre of the universe, with cadres dancing and singing around it, as it bounds around meaninglessly. Here, Nyarlathotep acts as its soul and messenger.[3] Azathoth has no definite appearance, being different to all who bear eyes upon it, but inflicts endless madness on them all the same. It is omnipotent, effectively being the primordial chaos.
