Orpheus is a legendary bard and hero of Greek lore. He earned the title "Master of Strings" due to his talent to master the lyre, able to charm everyone, including inanimate objects whenever he plays. He is the son of the Thracian King Oeagrus and the muse Calliope (while in some account, he is instead the son of the god Apollo). He appears in numerous famous tales, the most famous of which is his descent into the underworld in search of his recently deceased wife Eurydice.
