Megami Ibunroku Persona
There are a total of five Types in the game. The original PlayStation release uses fully capitalized English words to represent them, which were left unchanged in Revelations: Persona. For the PlayStation Portable port, the Type names were changed to Japanese.

Furthermore, each Type possesses four Subtypes (with the exception of Normal). Each demon and Persona also has its own Subtype, but they're not tied to race or Arcana. Much like Types, the original PlayStation release used fully capitalized English words to represent them.

Types and Resistances
With some exceptions, Types and Subtypes are used to determine a demon or Persona's resistances.
As a general rule, Element and Force will resist themselves and be weak to each other. So an Element demon will resist Fire, Ice, Wind, and Earth but be weak to Electric, Nuclear, Gravity, and Blast.
Likewise, Light and Dark will resist both Element, Force, and themselves while being weak to each other and Physical attacks. So a Dark Persona will resist Element, Force, and Dark but be weak to Physical and Light.
In addition, if a demon or Persona's Subtype belongs to either Element or Force, they will greatly resist their Subtype and be weak to its opposite. So a Persona of the Wind Subtype will either null, drain, or repel Wind but be weak to Earth.
Subtypes belonging to either Light or Dark may also grant additional resistance to either or both of their Type's offensive elements and weakness to its opposite.
Types in Fusion
Types and Subtypes also have an effect in fusion. Fusing demons of the same Type will grant the resulting Persona an additional +20 to Magic Attack and +5 to its highest parameter, as well as making it so the fusion accident that reduces a Persona's parameters by -5 does not occur (other types of fusion accident may still happen).
On the other hand, fusing demons of opposite Types will result in a higher chance of a fusion accident occurring, and the accident type that increases a Persona's parameters by +2 will not happen.
If a Persona's Subtype belongs to the Element Type, they won't be able to inherit skills from their Subtype's opposite. For example, a Persona of the Ice Subtype won't be able to inherit any Fire skills.
