Origin

Mezuki (馬頭鬼, lit. "horse-headed ogre") is a Japanese name of the creature Horse-Face, one of the guardians of the underworld in East Asian Buddhism along with Ox-Head.

Design

Mezuki's artwork for Shin Megami Tensei features the character 鬼 on his clothing, which is one of the characters in his name.

Shin Megami Tensei (A-Mode DDS)	Origin: India Guardians of Hell with the head of a horse. They are often paired with Gozuki. They are Yama's attendants who guard Hell's gates. They are dreadful beings to evildoers, but are benign to good people.
Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth	A horse-headed demon from Buddhist myth and guardian who tortures sinners sentenced to hell. He mercilessly punished victims, only to resurrect and torture them again.
