Gameplay

Magatama serve as both equipment that the Demi-fiend can equip by ingesting, replacing the standard equipment in previous Shin Megami Tensei games, as well as a means of teaching the Demi-fiend new skills. Magatama impart an increase to certain stats and elemental or status ailment affinities for as long as they are equipped; conversely, some Magatama will impart a weakness to certain elements or status ailments as well. A Magatama has a set of skills and/or traits that it can teach the Demi-fiend upon leveling up once he has reached a minimum required level. The required levels are not stated in-game, but are indicated by the Magatama glowing and shaking on the Magatama screen; the Magatama will glow brightest and shake wildly when a new skill is about to be learned on the next level. A Magatama's skill can only be learned once in a playthrough, if forgotten or not added when learned, that skill will become permanently lost to the Demi-fiend.

Occasionally after leveling up, an equipped Magatama will turn wild; if allowed to continue, this will create a certain effect. Each Magatama has a small set of effects that are randomly chosen when allowed to go wild, some having positive effects such as healing or permanently increasing one of the Demi-fiend's stats, and others having negative effects such as inflicting a status ailment or doing nothing. The Demi-fiend can choose to calm a Magatama and prevent any wild effects from happening.

A Magatama is "mastered" once the Demi-fiend has learned all the skills it can teach. This will add a bright blue background to the Magatama on the Magatama screen. A mastered Magatama gives Alignment points towards either Light, Neutral, or Dark; the current score will change the Demi-fiend's title corresponding to the Alignment on his stats screen. The title does not affect gameplay nor story progression, however some optional doors in the Labyrinth of Amala can only be opened with certain Alignments. Mastering all of the Magatama grants the King title.

List of Magatama

Reason: All Magatama and their statistics need to be added.

Marogareh

Marogareh (マロガレ Marogare) is the first Magatama that the protagonist receives, forced upon him by the Blond Child and Lady in Black following the Conception. It is this Magatama that initially transforms the protagonist into the Demi-fiend.

Marogareh's final skill, Pierce, was introduced in Maniax and can only be learned once the Labyrinth of Amala has been completed.
