Profile
Origin
Richard Ramirez, known infamously as the Night Stalker, was an American serial killer and Satanist who terrorized Southern California during the mid-1980s. His crime spree, which lasted from 1984 to 1985 between Los Angeles and San Francisco, involved acts of extreme violence, sadism, sexual assault, and burglaries. His victims ranged in age from children to the elderly, and he showed no apparent pattern in his choice of victims. Ramirez was eventually detained in 1985, largely due to the efforts of the community and the media, which played a role in publicizing his crimes and creating alertness. He was convicted of 13 counts of murder, 5 counts of attempted murder, 11 counts of sexual assault, and 14 counts of burglary, among other charges. In 2013, after spending 23 years awaiting execution, Ramirez died in custody due to complications related to B-cell lymphoma.
