This guardian's identity is disputed. While the Shin Megami Tensei: Demons Bible (published in 2003 by Shinkigensha) claims its identity to be 神龍 shénlóng,[citation needed] this is unlikely due to phonetic dissimilarity with this guardian's name ティンロン tinron; shénlóng is typically transcribed into Japanese as シェンロン shenron. 天龍 tiānlóng is more phonetically suitable, though a more precise transcription would be ティエンロン tienron; however, in Cantonese, 天龍 is pronounced tin1 lung4.
