Documentation

A citation template that is used along with general reference lists. Pair with the id field in Template:Cite Book, Template:Cite Journal, or Template:Cite Magazine. See those pages' documentation for details on a general references list.

Page number can either be set like other citation templates (using page) or it can be done using p/pp as a shorthand:

  • {{Sfn|Smith|2000|page=p. 200}} is the same as {{Sfn|Smith|2000|p=200}}.
  • {{Sfn|Smith|2000|page=pp. 200-201}} is the same as {{Sfn|Smith|2000|pp=200-201}}.

Author and year can be grouped together like below if preferred. This can also be used to use a different label than the author and year, such as if there is no particular author (such as in a magazine interview) or if the exact year is unknown. In such case, make the first parameter match the general citation's id field.

  • {{Sfn|Smith 2000|page=p. 200}} is the same as {{Sfn|Smith|2000|page=p. 200}}.
  • {{Sfn|MagazineName January 2000 interview|page=p. 200}} is an example of a custom citation label. To use italics, use the displaytext parameter, e.g. {{Sfn|MagazineName January 2000 interview|displaytext=''MagazineName'' January 2000 interview|page=p. 200}}.
